Message from our founder

We are a charity organisation founded  by two medical doctors and  another health proffesionals , to nurture the  talents of well talented  but disadvantaged children in Ethiopia.

Our first project is running now for  about a year and  we have about 150  trainee children, age 12-16. We have 3 part-time sport teachers and looking for volunteer sport and music teachers. We are planning to form a music club in  one of the secondary schools. We have already some music instruments on the site and we need more.

We are about to start a fundraising campaign to build a multifunctional training centre to support the children in their training. The centre will function as a cultural centre, will be used to organize different kinds of workshops  and to organize very practical vocational trainings sessions.

Origine of SF

The Sunflowers Foundation is founded by in the Netherlands by people from Ethiopia and the Netherlands with the mission to help the talented kids from Ethiopia who are otherwise very little chance of developing their talents.

We started with the field of sport and music but we are planning to extend this in providing some basic vocational training.

The founders of the SF are volunteers and are not paid .One the founders has traveled so far 2x to Ethiopia on his own expense. The committee members contribute to the success of the foundation in terms of their time and also financially but we need more support to achieve our goals.

The project is intended to last 5 years and after 5 years will reevaluate and decide how to proceed.

Mission of SF

Our mission is to give hand to those children who are very disadvantaged and also talented. Every child whether is talented or not deserves a proper care and education but capacity is very limited and we made a choice.

Future and goals of SF

An Endowment Fund

An Endowment Fund: The culture center in the Dedu Village in Guduru needs to sustain itself into the future as a platform for various programs. An endowment fund needs to be established to help cover the core recurring costs. SF needs the assistance of philanthropists, foundations and businesses to help capitalize such a fund.

Reproductive Health

Prevention interventions are focused on youth and undertaken on the basis of baseline research, best practices, consultations with community representatives and national strategies. Activities involve creative approaches such as peer-based education, community drama and workshops. SF seeks a major healthcare corporation as a strategic partner to enable SF Village to expand its prevention outreach to include assistance for primary health care in the areas of reproductive, respiratory and intestinal health.

On-Site Resource Generation

On-Site Resource Generation: SF currently undertakes resource generation activities such as training teachers coaches to be able to train the children. SF needs to expand the operation to include other resource generation activities such as making products out of wood, metal and setting up an internet center. SF seeks strategic partners to help develop, strengthen and expand these resource generation activities.

Our approach

Support the disadvantaged community, transfer our knowledge in a way that they take over our after a couple of years.
